Sex and the Single Avatar in Second Life XX – Revisiting BDSM in Second Life

Right on the edge of fear was where trust could grow.

Cherise Sinclair

Here’s a first for me!

Two back-to-back Sex and the Single Avatar in Second Life (SL) stories and both are both are about BDSM!

(Significant Other gives me that look that says, “Don’t start getting any ideas!)

Actually, this coincidence says less about me and more about the vagaries of my editorial processes and the prevalence of the BDSM lifestyle inworld.

In today’s story, I return to the Devilhand Castle of Carnal Pleasure, or as it’s now known as Devilhand City.  I’m also going to announce some exciting news about a joint project between Devilhand and myself.  More details in a moment!

Yes, not long after, I first visited Devilhand, there was a rebranding.  (What, did you think that only Real Life (RL) did things like this?)

So, now that the smoke and dust have settled over there in Devilhand, I dropped by recently to chat with the couple who run it, Amaterasu (“Ama”) Silvercloud and Steve.  Both are practicing members of the BDSM lifestyle inworld themselves.

Where, once Devilhand was a magnificent castle brooding over the countryside hinting at all sorts of nastiness and mystery within, now it’s a gritty, urban area in the style of 1920s Chicago.  Instead of one imposing structure that draws visitors in, one now has a maze of streets, frightening alleys, and buildings bordering a lake patterned roughly after RL
Chicago.  (OK, I know I’m going to get a lot of flak from RL Chigagoeans that this is nothing like their beloved Chi-town.  All I have to say in reply is to use a little imagination please!)

The film-noirish look and feel of the new Devilhand hints at Prohibition, the Saint Valentine’s Day Massacre, and all the other sins of that era.  The themes are mobsters, gangsters, and crime of all sorts.  As Ama says, “It was a wild time!”

Naturally, BDSM is still woven into the fabric of the Devilhand community.  Wandering around town, one can find small places for quiet, intimate moments of bondage.

So, why the switch from medieval to Twentieth Century America?

Seems that Devilhand was experiencing a steady decline in visitors over quite some time, and they realized that the competition with the Gorean and other medieval sims was just too difficult to compete with.

Hence, the 1920s were born inworld!

Steve also feels that there are endless possibilities, the medieval sim was quite
limiting for various reasons, and now he feels that they have opened it up. Himself, he’s looking forward to being able to explore the seedy private eye role in the sim.

Devilhand is open to all residents but would like visitors who are familiar with the basics of role play or at least will respect those who are role playing.  There is a preference for humanoid residents.  Devilhand would like to see participants as opposed to just tourists dropping by.  Ama likes to point out that there is more to Devilhand than just mobsters and gangsters, visitors should explore all parts of the town.

Speaking of exploring, Steve encourages visitors to not just rezz into the landing zone, walk two meters outside the building and then TP away.  Spend time getting to know Devilhand and its residents.  It’s well worth the time and effort!

I’ve gone walkabout several times in Devilhand and I keep getting lost.  (We’ll ignore Significant Other’s comment about why should SL be any different from RL.)

There are many buildings, streets, entertainment venues (I did manage to find the
burlesque house!), and other dark corners that will keep drawing you back.  (Hey, did I mention that I have an office here too?)

Devilhand is also expanding their social calendar.  There will be events, parties, concerts, dances, balls, tribute concerts (already started), and the occasional mob hits. Check the recently launched Devilhand website for details!

As for the future, Devilhand feels that they quite settled.  So, development of that base is next. They want to make things better and nicer, and find what people want and how they can build a stable user group.

Oh, and remember the original Devilhand Castle?

Well, it seems that it was brought back by popular demand and can be found here.

Also, Steve and Ama now have additional help in running Devilhand.

Nightbud (“Night”) is the mayor and Phryne is in charge of public relations and the Devilhand website.

I’d like to thank all of them for meeting with me recently and bringing me up to date on all that’s been happening in Devilhand!

Now, for that big announcement that I’d mentioned earlier.

I will be writing a series of six short stories based in the Devilhand world.  They’ll be fiction but will draw on the characters and locations in the sim.  There’ll be a few fictional
characters as well.  The only way my readers will be able to figure out who’s who is by visiting Devilhand!  (Yeah, sneaky, I know but it works!)  The stories will be edgy and different from what I normally write.  I hope you’ll like them!

They’ll be posted every other month on the Devilhand website which can be found here and on my blogroll.

So, drop by and check out the new Devilhand!  You can find it here!

Do stay for a while and get engaged!

Better, yet drop by my office and have a cup of coffee with me!

Sex and the Single Avatar in Second Life XIX – Visiting a New BDSM Club in Second Life

No one looks back on their life and remembers the nights they got plenty of sleep.

Anonymous

Recently, I learned of a new BDSM sim in Second Life (SL).

(Significant Other wonders why I keep finding these places.)

This one has an interesting twist.  (No pun intended.)

Unlike many BDSM sites inworld which are cold, dank subterranean dungeons, this one is more like a Gold’s Gym with a club and beach resort thrown in.

Intrigued by the concept (Significant Other’s eyes roll and lips say, “What else is new?”) I make arrangements to visit the site and meet the owners.

The BDSM resort is called Sands of SinnZ and is located here.

The owners and managers are a couple called Holle von SinnZ and Racheal SinnZ.  And, yes, they are lovers, engaged, and soon to be married inworld.  More on this is in a moment!  In addition, Holle is Rach’s mistress.

Holle and Rach are both longtime residents in SL with interesting stories about how they came to be.

Holle’s background goes back to avatars prior to her current avi. Holle is a character from a book she was working on at the time in Real Life (RL), and was never meant to get any real time, but Holle was jumping into this avi to write while inworld, and the more she was away from the RL sorrows of her former main avi, the more at peace she felt. So rightly or wrongly Holle stayed Holle.  But in time the emotional train wrecks of her and Rach’s lives came to head as most things do bringing them together.  However, Holle would do it all over again to be here with Rach today.

Rach came into SL over eight years ago, when her late sister introduced her to it.    Back then it was a very different world in SL, she used to just hang around with friends and got to know a few good ones whom she joined with as family.  Rach has remained close friends with a few of them.  In her eight years, she has done a lot.  Rach has designed and built sim layouts, has built motorcycles, and run clubs.  She’s also done DJing and photography.  Yet, somehow, it started to all become the same until she met Holle who gave her a new life and kick started her SL experience again.  Hence, they are now a couple with this beach and club.

Holle and Rach met in a BDSM club.  As Holle puts it, “I spotted her.  But I was like WOW she’s HOT!…2 secs later she [Rach] IMED me and it’s been Wild in love from there”

Meanwhile, Rach says that she was just wondering and thinking of leaving SL and
she stumbled across Holle at that club who became her mistress and fell in love with.  She knew then that Holle was the one she wanted to marry.

Needless to say, there is a very strong sexual component to their relationship!

Holle and Rach have never met in person in RL. Their relationship is exclusively through SL.

When it comes to the BDSM lifestyle in RL, Rach seems to be the more experienced of the couple with Holle has only “played” with BDSM in RL but admits to wanting to tie Rach up if they ever meet in RL.  Rach has offered to supply the rope.

Holle and Rach decided to open the club for two reasons.

First, the beach was the core idea, a place open to explore the BDSM lifestyle.  Second, they both love clubs.  They started throwing parties here and there so it all sort of just clicked for them.

Holles believes that SL does not complement the BDSM lifestyle very much.  Some BDSM places inworld have it right, while others don’t, Holle likes to think they offer a happy mix.  Rach been part of the BDSM lifestyle in RL says that SL doesn’t really complement it.  It’s a different lifestyle in her opinion but they do have points in common.

When discussing how their club differs from its competition, Rach explains that they offer the BDSM life on a open beach with the club as an extra attraction.  The club could be
said to be in many ways like the competition but Rach would like for anyone to find a more relaxing and enjoyable beach BDSM scene.

Holle says that all clubs are basically alike but there’s only one club that has Holle and Rach, and they are trying to bring a harmony of BDSM and club life together.  Adding that it’s not easy!

Rach notes that BDSM and their club are one here and are not separated as can be seen with the location of the play room next to the club’s dance floor.

As for clientele, Rach states that it’s open for people to explore the BDSM lifestyle in the club environment either the beach scene or the urban scene.

Holle says that as they build and find new styles, they will implant them discreetly each time adding new experience for guests.

Sands of Sinnz is not looking for any specific client types, such as dom/dommes, subs, slaves, or nudists.  All are welcome and Holle and Rach want to be home to all the above.

Visitors can have sex in the open and are encouraged to find their own balance at the resort.  (Rach adds that they can’t say no when they do!)

Holle explains that BDSM isn’t about sex only but that’s where SL and RL differ she feels.

When asked about what are their ultimate goals for the club, Holle says that she'd
like to see it grow.  This is their love and soul, so of course she wants it to grow and live.  Their ultimate goal is for Sands to grow and the people coming here to return because they have found what Holle and Rach see in it.

Holle and Rach have learned several lessons from this project so far.

Rach starts by saying having someone you love with you while building was a dream for her which gave me the inspiration to get on with it.

Holle’s lesson is to have your key elements in place before you start as in money, people to help, and that’s the big one – “ASKing”for help.”

Keeping it simple to start and not throwing too many ideas into the cooking pot at once.

I saved the most important question for last, “When's the wedding?”

Holle and Rach are looking at some time in 2017 but they both say the wedding will be when the time is right.  Which is a great answer!

(If I get invited I promise that there’ll be a follow-up story!)

Sands of Sinnz is a comfortably sized facility catering to BDSM, nudists, and others who want a friendly, open environment to mingle with others or to be alone with a partner for more intimate moments.

BDSM equipment is located in the play room next to club’s dance floor while individual BDSM pieces are located on small nearby islands for private practice.

Holle and Rach hold events regularly at Sands from 2:00 to 8:00PM SLT every day with the best activities occurring on Mondays and Thursdays.

Overall, Sands of Sinnz is a great place to go and have a good time inworld.

It can be found here.

The staff are friendly and welcoming and the other guests are well behaved.

I recommend Sands of Sinnz for anyone curious about BDSM or who is just looking to have a good time with others!

Tell ‘em web sent you!

Who knows, you may find me hanging out there!

I’d like to thank Holle and Rach for taking the time for this interview and for showing me around.

I also want to wish them every happiness and good fortune in their lives together inworld!

Finally, thanks to The Companion for taking the pictures used in this story and that can also be found on this flickr page.

Looking Back on 2016 in Second Life

The worst part of holding the memories is not the pain. It's the loneliness of it. Memories need to be shared.

 Lois Lowry

It’s that time of the year again.

The Holidays are drawing to a close.  Winter is taking us deeper and deeper into its cold and darkness.  Snow threatens.  (Yeah, I get it!  You folks in Florida and Arizona are clueless about what I’m talking about.  Just sit back in your beach chairs and enjoy my story!)

Another year is coming to an end.

They seem to go by faster now.

Fewer people seem to be around to remember with us those years gone by.  (I’ll ignore Significant Other’s contribution that maybe they’re just avoiding me.)

Somehow, the old doesn’t seem as reassuring as it once did.  The approaching new looms threateningly ahead of us.  (Anyone who doesn’t know what I’m referring to here, please find a nice, safe, comfortable seat, call emergency services, and wait for them to come for you.  They’re nice people and will see that you get the care that you need.)

How was my year?

Well, Significant Other and I survived.

We lost someone in Real Life (RL) who was very close to both of us.

About the same time, I had a major change in my RL situation but that seems to be turning out alright for us.

These events did affect my writing.  (My three loyal followers did notice that I missed a few stories.  Although, one wise guy just thought that I’d forgotten!)

But, enough of RL!

You’re here to hear what I have to say about last year in Second Life (SL), so let’s do it!

I had a lot of good news in SL this year!

(My thanks to my three loyal followers including the aforementioned wise guy.)

I went over the 1,000,000 hits mark for my blog!

(Yeah, OK, maybe they’re not all real people but it’s a big number to me!)

I got adopted and now have a L’il Sister!

(I never had one before in either RL or SL, she’s a bit of a nudge but does make SL more interesting!)

I started a new series about dungeons inworld.  (And, no, this had nothing to do with getting adopted.  Where do you people get these ideas about me?  Even Significant Other hasn’t suggested that one… Yet.)

I’ve begun to look more closely at our lives inworld.  Are we content, what’s our purpose for being there, and are we spending too much time inworld?

I wrote about old friends inworld.

(Yes, they’ve stayed with me!)

Perryn Peterson and his Mieville posse are still going strong and have one of, if not the most, active social calendars inworld.

Another good friend got married!

And, there have been others, and space constraints preclude me from listing them all!  (Hint: Check my blog to read all about them!)

How’d I do against my original goals for 2016?

Not too shabbily even if I do say so myself!

(I didn’t ask Significant Other so don’t feel any regret about ignoring the feedback.)

I did blog about friends and communities.

I started the new series on dungeons and covered new topics like jousting.

There was edgier content about shibari and nudity.

Sadly, I wrote about sexual harassment inworld.  I just felt that something had to said.

Finally, I’ve gotten more into whom we are in SL.

Overall, given all the fun ‘n frolic in life in RL this year, I’m satisfied.  I didn’t go as deep or as broad as I’d hoped but then that’s just laying the foundation for 2017 isn’t it?  (More about 2017 in my next story!)

So, what’s my final say about SL for 2016?

I still enjoy rezzing inworld to visit new places, meet people, and have new experiences!

And, I still enjoy returning to familiar places, old friends, and reliving some experiences!

What’s not to enjoy?

SL still challenges, intrigues, and attracts me!  (Despite L’il Sis lurking about.)

I still urge anyone who is curios and has a sense of adventure to drop by and visit!

You’ll be glad you did!

Au revoir 2016!

Happy New Year to all whether in SL or RL!

A Dungeon Crawl in Second Life I – Devilhand Castle

I've always been attracted to things that are taboo. I've never been afraid to go to that dark place.

Ricky Williams

Welcome to the newest series in my blog!

This one is an outgrowth of an earlier series about the castles of Second Life (SL).

In this series, I’ll be blogging about the dungeons of SL that I encounter as I go walkabout inworld.  There’re actually a lot of them!  Poking around in old, musty castles, I run into them quite frequently.  Further, it seems that no self-respecting BDSM group inworld can’t exist without its own private dungeon.  Then there are all the merchants who supply all the furnishings and fittings that no dungeon can be without.  (Who knew?)

For my first story in my dungeon crawl across the Grid, I return to Devilhand Castle, one of my early castle visits.

Devilhand is the quintessential dark, brooding castle and is also the home to a BDSM community. I first encountered it when I blogged about the BDSM group.  Like any good castle, Devilhand serves as the basis for many good stories and this is only my latest!

Rezzing into the dungeon at Devilhand, one realizes quickly that they’re on one of the castle’s upper stories.  The latticed windows are a dead giveaway!  Not where one usually expects to find a dungeon!  Another feature that jumps out at a visitor is the layout.  It’s like a modern gym in Real Life (RL) with all its equipment laid out for the membership.  There are no cells, dark corners with rats scurrying around, or discarded skeletons in the

passageways.  (Significant Other wants to know why I say this like it’s a bad thing.)  Two arched doorways on one wall lead out to the castle itself.  Three walls are of textured stone and the fourth which looks over the sea is constructed of a deep red wood.  The floor is constructed of large timber beams.

I suspect that the reason for this is Devilhand’s being a BDSM sim.  There seems to more interest in bondage and discipline and viewing it than in running a good old fashioned medieval dungeon!

Scattered across the floor are about a dozen bondage and torture devices.  Three spherical cages are suspended from the ceiling.

Several of the classic devices are here to be used.  That old favorite, the rack is
available along with a St. Andrew’s Cross, an examination table, and a variety of bondage and restraining furniture.  These devices are primarily medieval in flavor consisting of heavy wooden timbers, ropes, and iron chains and manacles.

The devices come with a variety of options for their users such as spanking, hair pulling, and preparation animations to more hardcore sex including some threesome capability.

Spectators are not forgotten as a raised dais has two high backed chairs permitting a good view of the dungeon’s activities.  In case, their occupants either start getting bored or feeling frisky, the chairs have their own options too.  Several stools are located around the
dungeon for individual observers and I won’t go into details about what options they have for users.

The dungeon in Devilhand Castle is effective for either for those interested in BDSM or those who would like to see the various devices used in a dungeon in one place.  The modern gym would also work for a group looking to share their experiences at the same time.  (Significant Other says only I would think of this.)

Overall, the dungeon is well worth a visit and I recommend going!  (As well as visiting the rest of the castle.  On can TP from there to other parts.)  Despite the modern layout, there is nice aged effect to the room and its fittings.

The dungeon can be located here.

Additional pictures from my visit can be located on this flickr page.

Sex and the Single Avatar in Second Life XV – An Introduction to Shibari

Fear can be a potent aphrodisiac.

Kele Moon

This story’s title may have attracted you because you’re participant in, or at least knowledgeable, about shibari, the Japanese technique of elaborately tying up a submissive for sexual bondage.   Or, you may be like me and just happened to stumble across it while in Second Life (SL)!

Either way, you’re here with me now, so allow me to tell you my story.

While having only a theoretical knowledge of shibari from Real Life (RL), (Significant Other indicates that’s all it’ll be.) I haven’t had much opportunity to investigate this practice inworld.  Recently, I visited a friend in SL who happened to be in a bondage cell when I arrived to meet her.  (Another story for another time there.)

My friend was a place called Madame Jenny’s Tea and Shibari House.  A Japanese themed tea house which also served those interested in shibari.  There’re also many cages and cells for those who prefer that.  While there, I was introduced to the owner and proprietress, Madame Jenny.  Always quick to grab a story for my three loyal readers, I
asked for and received an agreement for a future interview.  And, that’s how we arrived here!

When I return subsequently to meet Madame Jenny for our interview, she’s wearing a colorful kimono telling me that she has always been fascinated by Japanese culture.

We seat ourselves on an outside deck adjacent to the teahouse and Madame Jenny tells me her story while she sips her tea from a traditional Japanese tea set.

Madame Jenny was first introduced to SL when a friend told her about roleplay in SL and being curious she joined.  Her first month was spent having fun and then she became interested in building thanks to a former sub.  When I ask if she’s a domme herself, Madame Jenny nods affirmatively.  (She asks that I highlight this point, she has many visitors who show up expecting her to be a sub!) Her interest in bondage started early when she was fascinated by photos and a few stories.  Her attraction to Japanese culture came from around them same time.  Madame Jenny’s not sure when she first encountered shibari, but she always found it to be very beautiful and erotic.  However, she does not practice shibari in RL.  It's a bigger study for her, but she smiles as she tells me that she does like having fun with ropes. Her involvement with SL bondage is a supplement to her RL practices.  Typically, Madame Jenny is tying the sub up or ordering another to make a "show."  She’s not into pixel sex as she terms SL love making because she finds teasing is far more fun inworld.  Sometimes sex happens, but mostly her bondage activities are limited to domination.  She has an aversion to chastity explaining that she leaves that joy to others.

However, Madame Jenny calls herself a halftime dome because the rest of the time inworld she just jumps around doing a lot of chatting, shopping and exploring too.

I next ask about the tea house itself and what led to its construction.

Madame Jenny explains that it started with she talked about building a simple Japanese house with a sub.   She tried building it and suddenly she was working on a really big challenge.  But, she built it.  As for her motivations, she was not very happy with most of the shibari places she’d found inworld.  They weren’t very Japanese.

Madame Jenny’s teahouse was built in classic Japanese style overlooking the sea.  The structure is four stories in height.  The bottom three floors are open to the public while
the fourth is Madame Jenny’s private residence.  The landing zone in front of the building is a deck with a sitting area with shibari devices and cages also on display.  In the floor of the deck is an entrance which leads down to a dungeon filled with cells and cages.  (Madame Jenny enjoys putting people into cages.)

The ground floor of the tea house has a large sitting area for serving tea along with ropes for suspension of subs and other shibari furniture.  Walking through the sitting area, one arrives in a small Japanese style garden.  The construction of the building is timber floors with tatami mats covering them.  Sliding panels, fusuma, made of paper and wood comprise the walls.  Noren hang in the doorways.  Off the main room is another large room given over to shibari practices.

The second floor opens onto a balcony overlooking the waterfront.  A tokonoma, or recessed space, contains an exquisite example of a bonsai tree.

Ascending to the third floor, one finds a large Japanese bath tub underneath a shibari
suspension rope.  Alongside is a massage area in front of a shoji screen.

Throughout the teahouse is evidence of Japanese art and culture.  Prints hang on the walls, lanterns, and furniture are on display.  Madame Jenny is particularly proud of her vase which she scripted herself.  They can be purchased either in her own store or in MarketPlace.

Madame Jenny offers the teahouse to all visitors who are interested in shibari and bondage.  All are welcome to come by and to have fun.  She does not run it as a business and cites making monthly tier payments as one of her challenges.  She laughs as she tells me that if she ran the teahouse as a business she would have shut it down long ago.  Many of her visitors are just interested in sex and not the actual practices of shibari and bondage.  She does not meet most of them but sometimes introduces a couple for their own entertainment.  While admitting that sex and bondage can be combined, Madame Jenny is more interested in bondage and teasing, the erotic aspects of domination, and having fun.

As our interview draws to a close and being mindful of Madame Jenny’s time, I ask her about the challenges of running the teahouse.

Madame Jenny replies wishing that more of her visitors came from Japan in RL.  She would also like to retain subs to act as geisha in the teahouse but has yet to meet anyone suitable.  She does not see the shibari toys here as good shibari devices, more a combination of rope bondage and sex.  Overall, she doesn’t believe shibari is very realistic inworld.  She has to occasionally give the toys a “kick” to get them working but that’s all.
Like many owners inworld, she complains of not having enough time to do everything.  (I can relate!) She has a little dream of having ikebana (japanese flower arrangements), so she can change them often.  One pleasant surprise for her was that she didn’t have as much trouble from griefers and “jerks” and she’d expected.

With that, I end our interview and thank Madame Jenny for her time and candor.  I return home.

Madame Jenny’s Tea and Shibari House is an excellent example of a traditional Japanese structure and is well worth visiting for that reason alone.  For those interested in shibari and bondage, the site is worth visiting as well.  It may not be as true a shibari experience as Madame Jenny would like but the atmosphere and lack of crowds makes up for that.  It can be found here.

In the future, I’ll be taking a more indepth look at shibari in SL so watch this space for more!

I’d like to thank Madame Jenny again for taking time away from her busy schedule to meet with me and for her very frank answers to my questions.

I’d also like to thank my friend, who will remain anonymous, who introduced me to her in the first place!
